Does everyone still think Sven is the man to be in charge of England?

I know he's doing well with the qualification for the world cup, but to me he just doesnt have it when it comes to the big tournament - see last world cup and euro championships.

Smurf.

I think England will put up a big show in 2006, this England team will be in its prime in Germany and i think if joe cole proves to be the answer on the left we will definatly make the final and maybe even win it.
We are stuck with sven whether we like it or not so lets just get behind him
and see if he can take us all the way.
The one major weakness the team still has is the lack of a world class goalkeeper ,so whoever is between the sticks come summer2006 i hope is in top form.

Sven is one of the best English Managers of all time our problem as fans is that we do not want to except a foreigner. His record speaks for its self England have only lost 2 competitive games. As for losing on the big stage we have not lost to a inferior team yet in the finals. We have been the most consistent team in the world in the hands of sven. lets get behind sven and give world cup 2006 a real go. We are getting better as a team that is due to sven. :-P

How about his fascination with Beckham though? i dont think Beckham is playing at his best and has not been so for a few seasons now.

I think Sven will go to the finals and then will be looking at his next job maybe back in Italy

Yes Sven has a great record in the qualification matches but it says leaps and bounds about the England teams achievements that people always talk about that. Rewind to the Euro 2004 quarter final against Portugal last year when Rooney got injured and had to come off, that was extremely unfortunate as he is probably our most important player these days but where was the bit of tactical nous when we needed it?

On the other hand Luiz Felipe Scolari replaced Luis Figo (widely recognised as one of the world's best players) with Helder Postiga who had had an absolutely abysmal season with Tottenham, yet it paid off, Postiga equalised with about 10 mins to go and Portugal went on to win the match.

Rewind again to the 2002 world cup quarter final against Brazil and David Seaman had just conceded a soft goal but yet Ronaldinho was sent off with 40 mins to go, where was the tactical nous when we needed it, the fact is we need to take that extra step now, we have consistently got to the latter stages of major championships but now we need to win one and I'm sorry but I can't see Sven doing that even if 2006 is supposed to be the year that the England team comes good!

Against there may be a case but to be a head and lose by a goal against Brazil can not be classified as a negative on svens cv. As for the Portugal game, we were winning we lost our inform player. Sven's natural replacement for Rooney was Heskey but after the France game he was in a no win situation. If we lose with Heskey on the pitch he probably gets the sack if we win he still will be anialated by the media, critics and fans and his job in on the line. So he had to go with another plan. Every manager or professional will look after his back and when one gets in such situation will never opt for a no win option thats nothing to do with not being English or passion.

In order to take creative and risky decisions, firstly, you have to be in a situation that demands the gamble and secondly you need the support of your fans. In the portugal case yes we were second for most of the game but after we conceded the first goal, we were playing the better football and argueably should have won the game with the disallowed Cambell goal. Why change when you are playing good football and you have only 1 sub left.
You do not take big gambles because the opposing is known to make daring substitute that work. Sorry Josh i think your analysis makes no sense at all.

Smurf. To me i think England FA should give him another chance.
despite he has not being doing well doesn't mean he's a failure.

The English F.A. Can't Sack Sven Because They'd Have To Pay Him Off; And The F.A. Is Already In Debt. The Only Way Sven Will Leave Is Under His Own Steam.

I do feel that because he's foreign he does get a lot more criticism than he would normally get. Remember Bobby robson took us to a world cup and didn't win a game, and yet he's a legend. Sven isn't the best manager in the world by a long shot but i do think we should let him cock it up before we have a go. If he wins the world cup we'll be disscussing wether or not he should be knighted.

Sven is surely and slowly improving our chances and steady improvement is always the best direction in any improvement operation.

Every tournament we have more believe and are beginning to really believe that we can win a tournament without luck. We have had no luck for so long, don't believe that when it comes it will come big.

What has Sven done? He has made a squad that has alot of experience, reasonable in age have depth and quality throughout. The only thing we were lacking is a winger, it seem that there is two on the way and both look good and play on opposing flanks. Is Sven going to choose Swp in front of Beckham, well from the appearances of both players over the last two years SWP is banker for the world cup. Sven is a very clever and shrewd manager his tactics are not naive its just he expresses them clearly and logically that seem to be too simple.

He has not chosen the method of selection used by other english managers.
selecting teams heavily made of inform players. Contarary he chooses most of his players for the next 3 or more years in mind. Thus carefully analysing his performances over a season or more then when satisfied that the players has the quality and consistency he will give his backing then it is up to the player to cement his place in the squad. he has and always will give room for inform players but not in the numbers of the past.

Sven is building an international team with a club philosophy this can not be damaging for the team.
