I agree it is hard to compare Arsenal of 2003 with Man U of 99 but I have to side with the Arsenal side.

I will not hide I am a Gooner but I don't think the Man U side of 99 could live with the Arsenal side of 2003. Don't get me wrong the 99 Man U side deserve all the accolades they get....they were a very good side who won the treble. This is something that I personally do not think will be done again by an English side.

However the Man U side of 99 were exceptionally lucky in the FA Cup semi and the final of 99. Please don't get me wrong they deserved it but I do not think this kind of luck particularly in the CL final against Bayern can ever be repeated.

On a purely footballing basis if the two sides played each other I think Arsenal would win. They have in my (maybe blinkered) opinion moved football forward in my opinion with the likes of Henry/Pires/Viera showing us things that I cannot believe can be done with a fotball.

I do not think Man U left that legacy......

I too am an Arsenal fan, and I have to say this year's team is, at times, as good as any I've seen play. Losing 2 parts of the treble in less than a week hurt them, but the way they have rebounded is fabulous.

I the league title is always much better than the FA Cup, and Chelsea have not won the Champs League yet, so I think credit should be given where it is due.

The best part of it all is that the Gunners are only going to get better in the near future. :D

Only when Arsenal do the treble can they be compared to Man United.The thing i would like to know about the Arsenal is, how come their players get better in their late thirties and are faster than when they where about 28. Bergkamp is a example,he could not raise a gallop 2 years ago yet now he his flying.I just wonder what is in their tea.

I,m sorry to say unless they do it there they can,t be regarded as the best.Ps to the Celtic fan who said they would beat them all ,sorry mate as a fellow Hoops fan we haven,t been able to compete in recent years due to finances and the league we play in Martin O,Neill has taken us as far as he can with limited resources.Celtic are a huge club but we only get 1.5million per year TV money while the likes of even Crystal Palace get 15-18 million simply because of the Premiership.

I think the current Arsenal team when they are in form play some of the best football i have ever seen . its crisp fluent high speed football at its finest.

As for the best team ever i would have to say it would go to Liverpool because they dominated english fooball from the mid 70's rite through the80's.

Liverpool FC won 4 european cups in 8 years and in my opinion would of won a few more if they weren't banned .

Manchester United were unstoppable domestically through the 90's and would be a clear 2nd

English champions are ambassadors of our league, representing a bench mark for English football. An English team will always win the domestic competitions, to calculate greatness, the formula is European achievements. Arsenal have been inconsistent, pathetic losing to most decent sides they can never be considered as decent English champions as for greatness don't make me laugh.

Greatness: Nottingham Forest 2 Consecutive winners
The Great Liverpool dominate Europe 9 years - 4 titles - 5 finals - upteen QF
(all European took a sigh of relief when they were banned)

If greatness is anilating domestic mediocre oppositions then there is no better teams in world football than Celtic and Rangers.
I agree with you fully on this and i apologise for overlooking cloughie's great forest side of the late 70's , i have full respect for forest and there european achievements it was a great team and halted liverpool dominance for a couple of years. And i agree that the great sides must win consecutive euro cups to have any credence as a team of greatness, just like liverpool in 77 and 78 and forest in 79 and 80.

with gerrard out are chances are slim at best . we are down to the bare minimum. gerrard, hamman,ciisse,kewell, pongolle, mellor all out , morientes cup tied, alonso has played 45 mins in the reserve team in 3 months so i don't think le tallec ,welsh ,biscan, warnock and partridge are going to be enuff for juve in turin, so i saY it will be a miracle if we go thru but i will put my faith in RAFA, good luck lads,

If domestic achievement are the benchmark to establish greatness then undoubtably the best team in Britain Know and using historical data is Celtic. Great teams are measured with their performances against the best teams on the continent or the world. When calibrating Arsenal with the best teams on the continent unfortunately their reading very mediocre at best. Their record in Europe is humiliating for the premiership. Arsenal are very very good at beating mediocre teams.

Firstly, the looks of the players should not in any way alter our opinion of their footballing ability but the MAN U fan that said the Arsenal players are the ugliest players probably looks like an ewok himself. Have you seen ROONEY! There is a reason he shags grannys. He would feel guilty if he had a woman that is half decent to look at. And NO, his mrs only spends his dough and has no interest in him whatsoever. Now, as far as football goes. I always have and always will hate MAN U. Nonetheless, they are and have been, one hell of a team for the last 10 plus years and you have to respect that. Unlike Chelski who have simply won the Lotto (Russian Millions, if you like). No respect for them whatsoever. If Arsenal (current) and Man U (99) played it would be a hell of a match. If both teams were on their best form the game would go 2 ways. Either Arsenal would score early and go up by 2 or 3 and thus kill off the game or it would be deadlock till the 85th minute when Man U would score as per usual (barring a well timed dive from a Rooney-a-like).
