Don't get me wrong Liverpool, as champions, deserve to defend their title but should there be so many teams representing each country. My arguement is this: You pretty much get the same top 3 every year going into the Champions League, therefore receiving the big cash windfalls for competing. With this money they then strengthen their squad to give them a good chance of a top 3 finish and then the process starts all over again. Is this fair because it makes the bigger clubs bigger and the smaller clubs smaller. What do you think?

Yeh your right. Thje old three cup system was better, as it was based more on the status of what cup you had won, rather than the money you could earn for just qualifying for the first round proper. I liked The European Cup as it was, a straight knock out between chamions only. The Ueffa Cup for those who finished second or third. And the Cup winners Cup for FA cup winners. This present system is basically a comprimise from Ueffa to stop the big boys breaking away to form their own league, leaving the Ueffa cup to rot in mediocrity, while ditching the cup winners cup all together! I am a Liverpool supporter and admit, that if the old system was still in place, we would not even have been in the big one, let alone won it. Likewise for UTD in 99. But none the less, the old knock outs were really exciting viewing and I miss them. Bah, I hate change !

I agree , sadly change is not always for the better, because it was much better before they changed it. truth is was more exciting then, the eufa cup was valued more and cup winners cup was good too. top 2 clubs should be in CL no one else no matter what the circumstances.I personally starting to think we might be better off letting the bigger clubs go to ther own european super league. In my opinion the english league is now as predictable as the scottish

qualified yes but we didnt get past the knock out stage, so no financial gain really.Truth is players go where they can get best money, who wouldn't. wage capping is the way to go ,like in the states, makes it more even. pretty much basically anybody can win it over there. not just the same old teams year in year out.
Thank god chelsea came along when they did

Far too many teams, i mean calling it the 'champions league' is a bit of a joke in itself.
Its should be the champions from each nation and no other teams, honouring the name 'Champions League'
Bring back the UEFA Cup and The Cup Winners Cup, it was by far the best format

If we were to go back to the old format. Which would mean a 7 game slog to becoming champions! You'd replace facing AC Milan or Real Madrid for Rosenberg or Lyn. Not a great European night in prospect!
