Flintoff has the potentail to become every bit as good as Beefy, if not better, and having a world class all rounder makes all the difference. Strength in depth is important in the top order and we have good batsmen in abundunce. Struass, Butcher, Trescothic, Vaughn, Bell, Thorpe and co, will all give the Aussie bowlers a run for there money, while Harmesson and Hoggard are the best bowlers we've produced since the young Gough first apeared on the scene. But the dark horses for me are the two Jones's. Australia, beware, the Ashes are coming home at last!

You missed out Pietersen , what a great knock he had today . Freddy is good but I honestly believe Kevin will be better . I think he should have the chance to bowl aswell . Great future for England ... we have the convicts on the run .... at last . SOTA

I think it began with the series win in the Windies a couple of years ago, that gave us confidence and a genuine world class bowler in Harmisson. Pieterson must have a place in the Test squad, but who should be sacrificed? You must have your four recognised bowlers: Harmisson, Hoggard, Jones and Giles. Gerraint Jones obviously has the wicket keeping position nailed down. So that only leaves six batting places up for grabs. Pieterson is obviously not an openner, so Trescothic and Struass must open. That leaves just four batting places. Flintoff has the all rounder position, so that leaves 3 places! Thorpe has to play, because he has the Ashes experience, and a good record against the Ozzies. That leaves two places. Vaughn is captain and bats well against the Ozzies. That leaves just one place, and there are three or four genuine contenders for that spot in the upper middle order. It's looking very healthy at the moment. I remember some of the great players that used to hammer the Aussies as a kid: Boycott, Willis, Botham, Gatting, Gower, Gooch, Knott, Embury, Randall, Dilly ect.........and todays players could go on to be even better, but they must regain the Ashes and then beat India and Packistan to achiev that! And they will !!!!!!!!!!
