Default Champions league isnt the Champions League !

Anybody else think the Champions League has been totally diluted since the introduction of teams who are not Champions of their own country. Man Utd and Liverpool both were champions of Europe while not being Champions of their own Country ! is this right ???

BRING BACK THE (PROPER) CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, UEFA CUP AND CUP WINNERS CUP - its was the perfect set up and not all about profit margins and revenue !

    I think the current champions league is a farce. If we cant go back to the old set up, can we please give this comp its proper name ;

'Champions, 2nd place, 3rd place and even sometimes 4th place league'

No I Think The Involvement Of These 2nd, 3rd And 4th Teams Have Made The Cl Far Better Than It Was In The 60s And 70s. I Mean It's A Bit Of A Kop Out Playing The Champions Of Iceland Isn't It?

If the champions League continues in its current format then i can see the top clubs having a case for a European super league, which would destroy nearly ever domestic league in Europe.

I was sat next to John Motson at a dinner recently and he cant stand the champions league in its current format, and refuses to commentate on it.

If its going to stay as it is, they must stop calling it the Champions League, because thats not what it is and its even false advertising !

I know you a Liverpool fan, but do you not think its a bit ridiculous that Liverpool are champions of europe yet they finished 37 points off top spot in the Premiership - surely that fact only shows that the Champions League in its current format, is , well - silly

i can see your point but it aint much of a competition if only the top teams make it.it works well and always give chelsea more incentive to do better in this.

so your saying that the Champions League pre 1992-93 wasn't much of a competition ? You are joking . It was a raw competition for the elite in Europe, no one else got in. What a tournament that is.

Doesnt matter if you are talking the Champions League, a bar, a club or a restaurant - the more people you allow in the door, the less exclusive it is . If this is what you want from Europe's premier club tournament that thats your opinion.

Im of the opinion that you have to be a champion to play in the Champions league. In fact i hardly watch any of it till the quarters aymore as its just another 'FA cup'. Teams in this tournament should be playing top class opposition every single game, no easy routes or games - thats sorts out who is the best in Europe !

Its quite interesting that this tournament should be called the European cup right up till they allowed 'any tom dick or harry in when they decided to call it the Champions League - how ironic !!!

    BRING BACK THE EUROPEAN CUP

the more people that get in the less exclusive it becomes?
so your saying that if a night club has 4 members its better then 500 members?
i dont agree ,the more the better as it brings in more intrest.the more people the more of a competition.
i think that if the more teams are in it then the true champions will finish first.
take boxing for a example, they fight many people to be a champion then they keep fighting to defend the title, same as footy the more teams you can beat then that shows that they are unbeatable then they are champions

I'd Thought As A Everton Support You'd Be Against The Champions League Format Of The 70s And 80s. It Throught Money That Clubs Progress. By Finishing 4th; You Recieve What 20 Million? 20 Million Pounds To Re-build And Strengten Your Position; And What Could Lead To A More Open Premiership, With Teams More Evenily Matched. As You Propose; Chelski Would Win The Title Year In, Year Out. And The Premiership Would Become Dull. There's No Point For Pushing Yourself Up The Table; When 11th Will Do.

The Cl Has A Ripple Effect; You Want To Do Well In The League So You Can Recieve The Chance To Play The 'Big Clubs' Of Europe; And The Money You Recieve For Entering.

My god man, you really dont get the 'elite' bit do you ? Your comparison of a nightclub having 4 or 500 members is really stupid and i fear i must explain to you further.

Lets take the Ivy, mere mortals cannot get a table in there, unless you book 6 months in advance. So everyone wants to go there. If they started letting anyone in, the restaurant would lose its USP ! It would then lose its core clientele and its down hill from there. Also i fear i must explain to you the word 'more' taken in the context of ' the more people you let in the less exclusive it becomes'

The world More doesnt mean AMOUNT . The Ivy is full for lunch and dinner at every serving. If they let more 'average' people in, then it becomes less exclusive.

If Chinawhites let in more 'general public' it would lose its appeal. So hopefully that has been cleared up.

All the top players and managers, complain about , too many games, burn out - then why do we want more 'rubbish' clubs playing in the Champions League creating more 'useless, pointless games' ??? I support Everton, and we could have been in the Champions League proper this season - THATS A COMPLETE JOKE. Seriously, Everton right now have no right at all to be anywhere near the Champions League, so surely with teams like this being in it, it de-values the comp for the fans and for the big clubs, the clubs that matter ??

The champions league is about the best in Europe playing each other, the best players going head to head. With more chance of inury and beeing suspended, we the football fans are being cheated out of what we shoud actually get.

Anyone here, incuding Liverpool fans, think you would have won the European cup had it been just the champions of each country and Liverpool in it ?

PS - Sat next to Motty for an entire night - really miserable git ,
